AUXILIUM
THE SECOND ALBUM
“WHO KNOWS WHAT’S TO FOLLOW?"
‘Pulmonis’ is the first in a series of progressive metal concept albums, narrated mostly in first-person by main protagonist Infra Solis.
Each track is lyrically and melodically linked to create a layered, immersive story experience.
The album focuses on the exploitation of struggling lower classes by the ruling Elites. Unlike many dystopian narratives, Pulmonis steps away from the usual pessimism surrounding human-technology integration and instead highlights hidden dark scheming within the city.
While the structure and story follows a direct, graphic novel inspired pacing, the lyrical content is slightly abstract enough to invite interpretations. Themes of hope, empowerment, and justice frequently contrast the album’s darker story moments, offering a sense of resilience amidst growing oppression.
There are recurring references to characters, locations, and pivotal events across the overarching narrative. These references will also link across future albums.
PART 2: ‘AUXILIUM' SUMMARY
“Truths come out when we hide beneath the sun"
Set within the sprawling, neon-drenched city of Pulmonis, this albums story follows Infra Solis, a disillusioned citizen who stumbles upon a chilling conspiracy.
As society fractures, and the gap between rich and poor widens, genetically altered humans known as Ectos (people whose blood has evolved through interaction with cybernetic TECHNOLOGY) are vanishing.
Infra discovers the existence of The Fountain, a hidden organisation run by the Elites of the city, who harvest Ecto blood to unnaturally extend their own lives. The practice is brutal, involuntary and concealed below FAITE, the leading company for cybernetic technology in Pulmonis.
Watching the city slowly suffocate itself and haunted by the suffering of its forgotten citizens, Infra forms The Night Watch, a resistance movement born out of the Crepuscule slums.
As Infra’s quest for justice deepens into desperation, the line between heroism and vigilantism blurs, forcing them to confront their own morality in a world where survival often demands blood.
This chapter asks:
Are we seeking a purpose or just more time to find one?
